۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
