The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers: 34 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? 35 ۞ Away! away with that wherewith ye are promised; 36 “There is nothing except our life of this world, we die and we live, and we are not to be raised.” 37 He is nothing but a man who attributes his own lying inventions to God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 The Messenger prayed, "Lord, help me; they have called me a liar". 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 AND AFTER them We gave rise to new generations: 42 [for,] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [its coming]. 43 Thereafter We sent Our apostles, successively. So oft as there came unto a community their apostle, they belied him, so We made them follow one another, and We made them bywords; so away with a people who believe not! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 unto Pharaoh and his great ones; but these behaved with arrogance, for they were people wont to glorify [only] themselves. 46 And they said: Shall we put faith in two mortals like ourselves, and whose folk are servile unto us? 47 So they denied them, and became of those who were destroyed. 48 We gave Moses the Book so that they might be guided. 49 And We made Mary's son, and his mother, a Sign, and We gave them refuge on a lofty ground, a peaceful site with springs flowing in it. 50
