A group of his people who disbelieved him and had called the Day of Judgment a lie and whom We had made prosperous in this life, said, "He is a mere mortal like you. He eats and drinks as you do. 33 And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers: 34 "Does he promise that when ye die and become dust and bones, ye shall be brought forth (again)? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 There is naught but our life in this world; we die and we live and we shall not be raised again. 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 The Messenger said: "My Lord! Come to my help at their accusing me of lying." 39 (Allah) said: "In a little while, they are sure to be regretful." 40 Then the shout laid hold of them in truth, and We made them a refuse; so away with the wrong-doing people! 41 Then after them, We created other generations. 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 Then sent We Our Messengers successively; whenever its Messenger came to a nation they cried him lies, so We caused some of them to follow others, and We made them as but tales; so away with a people who do not believe! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 to Pharaoh and his courtiers, but they behaved insolently, for they were an arrogant people. 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 So they denied them and were of those destroyed. 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) and his mother as a sign, And We gave them refuge on high ground, a place of rest, security and flowing streams. 50
