And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 “Does he promise you that when you die and turn into dust and bones, you will be raised again?” 35 ۞ Far-fetched, far-fetched indeed is what you are promised! 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 [Whereupon the prophet] would say: "O my Sustainer! Succour me against their accusation of lying!" 39 Answered (the Lord): "They shall wake up repenting soon." 40 So the (Awful) Cry overtook them rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far removal for wrongdoing folk! 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 We sent Our messengers one after the other but whenever a Messenger would come to a nation, its people would call him a liar and We would destroy one nation after the other, thus, only their stories were left behind them. God keeps the unbelievers far away from His Mercy. 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk. 46 And they said: Shall we put faith in two mortals like ourselves, and whose folk are servile unto us? 47 Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed. 48 And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Musa the Book, that haply they may be guided. 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
