And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 and, indeed, if you pay heed to a mortal like yourselves, you will surely be the losers! 34 “Does he promise you that when you die and turn into dust and bones, you will be raised again?” 35 ۞ What you are promised is indeed far-fetched. 36 There is naught but our life in this world; we die and we live and we shall not be raised again. 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me. 39 Said Allah, “They will soon wake up at morn, regretting.” 40 And the Cry seized them justly, and We made them as scum; so away with the people of the evildoers! 41 Then after them, We created other generations. 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Yet whenever its Messenger came to a nation they belied him, so We made them follow others, and We made them but as tales, so begone the nation who did not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 To Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they behaved insolently and they were people self-exalting (by disobeying their Lord, and exalting themselves over and above the Messenger of Allah). 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed. 48 We gave Moses the Book so that they might be guided. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a portent, and We gave them refuge on a height, a place of flocks and watersprings. 50
