And the chiefs of his people who disbelieved and called the meeting of the hereafter a lie, and whom We had given plenty to enjoy in this world's life, said: This is nothing but a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat from and drinking of what you drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost. 34 Does he promise you that after you die and become dust and bones you will be brought back to life again? 35 ۞ After, after with that which you are promised! 36 There is no life beyond our life in this world: we die and we live [but once,] and we shall never be raised from the dead! 37 “He is just a man who has fabricated a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe him.” 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful." 40 A blast struck them for a just cause, and We made them look like withered leaves. God keeps the unjust people away from His mercy. 41 After them We produced other generations 42 No nation can anticipate their term, nor can they delay it. 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 Then they belied the twain; so they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
