And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 If ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ After, after with that which you are promised! 36 "There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! 37 This man has forged a mere lie in the name of Allah and we shall never believe what he says." 38 He said: "O my Lord! Help me because they deny me." 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 A blast struck them for a just cause, and We made them look like withered leaves. God keeps the unjust people away from His mercy. 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor can it put it back. 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after another; whenever there came to a people their apostle, they called him a liar, so We made some of them follow others and We made them stories; so away with a people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron, with Our Signs and authority manifest, 45 unto Pharaoh and his great ones; but these behaved with arrogance, for they were people wont to glorify [only] themselves. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 So they denied them and were of those destroyed. 48 And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright. 49 and We made Mary's son, and his mother, to be a sign, and gave them refuge upon a height, where was a hollow and a spring: 50
