And the chiefs of his people who disbelieved and called the meeting of the hereafter a lie, and whom We had given plenty to enjoy in this world's life, said: This is nothing but a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat from and drinking of what you drink. 33 “If you were to obey a human like yourselves, then surely you are losers!” 34 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? 35 ۞ What you are promised is indeed far-fetched. 36 “There is nothing except our life of this world, we die and we live, and we are not to be raised.” 37 "He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!" 38 (The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood." 39 (Allah) said: "In a little while, they are sure to be regretful." 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter]. 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a manifest authority 45 unto Pharaoh and his Council; but they waxed proud, and they were a lofty people, 46 And said: "Should we believe in two men like yourselves, whose people are our subjects?" 47 So they cried them lies, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might be guided. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them a refuge on a hillside where there was a hollow and a spring. 50
