And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ After, after with that which you are promised! 36 "There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 [Whereupon the prophet] would say: "O my Sustainer! Succour me against their accusation of lying!" 39 (Allah) said: "In but a little while, they are sure to be sorry!" 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 AND AFTER them We gave rise to new generations: 42 no community can advance or postpone its appointed time, 43 then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time their messenger came to a people, they rejected him. So We destroyed them one after the other, and let them become mere tales. So away with the people who will not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk. 46 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us? 47 They called them liars and consequently were destroyed. 48 And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a portent, and We gave them refuge on a height, a place of flocks and watersprings. 50
