Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, who cried lies to the encounter of the world to come, and to whom We had given ease in the present' life, 'This is naught but a mortal like yourselves, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, you will be brought forth to life? 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which you are promised. 36 "There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! 37 He is naught but a man who has forged a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe in him. 38 [Whereupon the prophet] would say: "O my Sustainer! Succour me against their accusation of lying!" 39 He said: In a little while they will most certainly be repenting. 40 Then the shout laid hold of them in truth, and We made them a refuse; so away with the wrong-doing people! 41 After them We produced other generations 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent our messengers one after another. Whenever its messenger came unto a nation they denied him; so We caused them to follow one another (to disaster) and We made them bywords. A far removal for folk who believe not! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 They said, "Are we to believe in two human beings like ourselves, while their people are subject to us?" 47 So they denied them – therefore became of those who were destroyed. 48 for, indeed, We had vouchsafed revelation unto Moses in order that they might find the right way. 49 And We made Mary's son, and his mother, a Sign, and We gave them refuge on a lofty ground, a peaceful site with springs flowing in it. 50
