But the leaders of his people who denied the truth and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, because We had granted them ease and plenty in their worldly life, said, "This is only a human being like yourselves, he eats what you eat, and drinks what you drink, 33 And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers. 34 Doth he promise you that you, when ye are dead and have become dust and bones, will (again) be brought forth? 35 ۞ “How remote, (really) how remote is the promise you are given!” 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be resurrected. 37 "He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!" 38 He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me." 39 God replied, "After a very short time they will certainly regret for their deeds." 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor can it put it back. 43 We then sent our Noble Messengers, one after another; whenever a nation’s Noble Messenger came to it they denied him, We therefore united the succeeding with the old, and made them history; so far removed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 To Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they behaved insolently and they were people self-exalting (by disobeying their Lord, and exalting themselves over and above the Messenger of Allah). 46 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us? 47 So they belied them, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
