And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost. 34 Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]? 35 ۞ How far-fetched what you are promised; 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is naught but a man who has forged a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe in him. 38 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar. 39 God replied, "After a very short time they will certainly regret for their deeds." 40 Then a mighty blast quite justly overtook them, and We reduced them to a rubble. So away with the wrong-doing folk! 41 Thereafter, after them, We produced other generations; 42 No nation can anticipate their term, nor can they delay it. 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 They said, "Should we believe in two mere mortals who are like ourselves and whose people are our slaves?" 47 So they cried them lies, and they were among the destroyed. 48 We gave Moses the Book so that they might be guided. 49 And We made the son of Marium and his mother a sign, and We gave them a shelter on a lofty ground having meadows and springs. 50
