The notables among his people who had refused to believe and who denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and those whom We had endowed with ease and comfort in this life, cried out: "This is no other than a mortal like yourselves who eats what you eat and drinks what you drink. 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ Such a promise will never come true. 36 There is nought but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we are not going to be raised up. 37 "He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!" 38 He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me. 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 A blast struck them for a just cause, and We made them look like withered leaves. God keeps the unjust people away from His mercy. 41 Thereafter, after them, We produced other generations; 42 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a manifest authority 45 unto Pharaoh and his great ones; but these behaved with arrogance, for they were people wont to glorify [only] themselves. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed. 48 for, indeed, We had vouchsafed revelation unto Moses in order that they might find the right way. 49 And We made the son of Marium and his mother a sign, and We gave them a shelter on a lofty ground having meadows and springs. 50
