And said the leaders of his people, who disbelieved and denied the confronting of the Hereafter – and We had given them comfort in the worldly life – that, “He is nothing but a human like you, he eats from what you eat and drinks from what you drink.” 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? 35 ۞ How far-fetched what you are promised; 36 There is naught but our life in this world; we die and we live and we shall not be raised again. 37 He is but a man who hath fabricated against God a lie, and in him we are not going to be believers. 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful." 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation can anticipate their term, nor can they delay it. 43 Thereafter We sent Our apostles, successively. So oft as there came unto a community their apostle, they belied him, so We made them follow one another, and We made them bywords; so away with a people who believe not! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed. 48 We gave Moses the Book so that they might be guided. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and gave them shelter on a peaceful hillside watered by a fresh spring. 50
