O apostles! eat of the good things and do good; surely I know what you do. 51 And lo! this your religion is one religion and I am your Lord, so keep your duty unto Me. 52 The people divided themselves into many sects, each with their own book and each happy with whatever they had. 53 But leave them alone, lost in their ignorance, until a [future] time. 54 Do they think that in giving them wealth and children 55 We would hasten them on in every good? Nay, they do not understand. 56 Surely those who live in awe of their Lord, 57 who believe in the revelations of their Lord, 58 And they who do not associate anything with their Lord 59 And those who give that which they give with hearts afraid because they are about to return unto their Lord, 60 to God, these are the ones who really compete with each other in virtuous deeds and are the foremost ones in the task. 61 And We do not burden any soul beyond its capacity, and with Us is a Book* that speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged. (* The preserved tablet or the record of one’s deeds.) 62 In fact, the hearts of the unbelievers are in the dark because of their ignorance of real virtue; they act against it. 63 until - after We shall have taken to task, through suffering, those from among them who [now] are lost in the pursuit of pleasures - they cry out in [belated] supplication. 64 [But they will be told] "Cry not in supplication today; for, behold, you shall not be succoured by Us! 65 My verses were recited to you, but you turned upon your heels, 66 Insolently, treating them like tales told at night." 67 Did they never ponder over this Word (of God)? Or has he (to wit, the Messenger) brought something the like of which did not come to their forefathers of yore? 68 Or is it that they were unaware of their Messenger and were therefore repelled by him for he was a stranger to them? 69 Or say they: There is a madness in him? Nay, but he bringeth them the Truth; and most of them are haters of the Truth. 70 But if the Truth had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined. Rather, We have brought them their message, but they, from their message, are turning away. 71 (Do they disbelieve because) you asked them for payment? The reward that you will receive from your Lord is the best. He is the best Provider. 72 And verily thou! thou callest them unto a Path straight. 73 And verily those who believe not in the Hereafter are from the path deviating. 74 ۞ If We took compassion on them and removed the affliction they are in, they would only wander lost in confusion. 75 And indeed We grasped them with punishment, so neither did they submit themselves to their Lord, nor do they cry humbly. 76 Until We open on them a gate leading to a severe Punishment: then Lo! they will be plunged in despair therein! 77
