O YOU APOSTLES! Partake of the good things of life, and do righteous deeds: verily, I have full knowledge of all that you do. 51 Surely this community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord; so fear Me.' 52 The people divided themselves into many sects, each with their own book and each happy with whatever they had. 53 Leave them in their perplexity for a time. 54 Do they think that by what We aid them with of wealth and children, 55 We [but want to] make them vie with one another in doing [what they consider] good works? Nay, but they do not perceive [their error]! 56 Surely they who from fear of their Lord are cautious, 57 And they who believe in the signs of their Lord 58 And those who ascribe not partners unto their Lord, 59 who give, whatever they give in charity, with their hearts trembling at the thought that they are destined to return to their Lord; 60 those vie in good works, outracing to them. 61 And We do not burden any soul beyond its capacity, and with Us is a Book* that speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged. (* The preserved tablet or the record of one’s deeds.) 62 On the contrary, their hearts are in neglect of this and their works are different than those of the believers, the works that they are doing. 63 To the extent that when We seized the wealthy among them with punishment, they immediately began imploring. 64 Cry not for succor this day; surely you shall not be given help from Us. 65 My revelations were recited to you, but you turned your backs 66 and arrogantly mocked and reviled them. 67 Have they not pondered the saying, or came there upon them that which came not upon their fathers, the ancients? 68 Or know they not their messenger, and so reject him? 69 or you said that he is possessed by satan? In fact, he has brought you the truth, but most of you dislike it. 70 And were the truth to follow their desires there would have been corrupted the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is therein. Aye! We have come to them with their admonition; so it is from their admonition that they turn away. 71 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers. 72 And indeed, you invite them to a straight path. 73 but those who disbelieve in the Everlasting Life deviate from the Path. 74 ۞ And if We have mercy upon them and remove the calamity which has befallen them, they would still stubbornly persist, wandering in their rebellion. 75 (They are such) that We seized them with chastisement (and yet) they did not humble themselves before their Lord, nor do they entreat 76 So that when at last We open up the gate of severe punishment on them they will be overwhelmed with despair. 77
