O you apostles, eat things that are clean, and do things that are good. We are surely cognisant of what you do. 51 And verily this religion of yours is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me. 52 But then they divided up their order into different creeds, each section rejoicing in what it had come to have. 53 But leave them alone, lost in their ignorance, until a [future] time. 54 Do they think that in giving them wealth and children 55 We provide them with the means of competing with each other in virtuous deeds, but they do not realize this. 56 Surely those who live in awe of their Lord, 57 Who believe in their Lord's revelations, 58 And those who with their Lord associate not anyone. 59 Who give whatsoever they give (in His way), and their hearts tremble with fear that they have to go back to their Lord, 60 These race for the good things, and they shall win them in the race. 61 And we task not any soul beyond its scope, and with Us is a Record which speaketh the truth, and they will not be wronged. 62 Nay, but their hearts are covered (blind) from understanding this (the Quran), and they have other (evil) deeds, besides, which they are doing. 63 Till, when We seize with the chastisement the ones of them that live at ease, behold, they groan. 64 Cry not for succor this day; surely you shall not be given help from Us. 65 For when My revelations were read out to you, you turned back on your heels and fled 66 In pride (they Quraish pagans and polytheists of Makkah used to feel proud that they are the dwellers of Makkah sanctuary Haram), talking evil about it (the Quran) by night. 67 Should they not think upon the saying? Or, did anything come upon them that had not come upon their ancient forefathers? 68 Or know they not their messenger, and so reject him? 69 Or do they say, "In him is madness?" Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse. 70 Had the truth followed their desires, the heavens and the earth and all that is in them would have been destroyed. We sent them the Quran but they ignored it. 71 Or are you asking them for any reward? But the reward of your Lord is the best, for He is the Best of Providers, 72 You are surely calling them to the right path. 73 but, behold, those who will not believe in the life to come are bound to deviate from that way. 74 ۞ And if We show mercy to them and remove the distress they have, they would persist in their inordinacy, blindly wandering on. 75 We had seized them with the punishment, but they did not bow before their Lord nor turned to Him in humility, 76 So that when at last We open up the gate of severe punishment on them they will be overwhelmed with despair. 77
