Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ This is a Surah which We have sent down and We have made it mandatory, and We have sent down clear Commandments in it so that you may learn lessons. 1 AS FOR the adulteress and the adulterer flog each of them with a hundred stripes, and let not compassion with them keep you from [carrying out] this law of God, if you [truly] believe in God and the Last Day; and let a group of the believers witness their chastisement. 2 Let no man guilty of adultery or fornication marry and but a woman similarly guilty, or an Unbeliever: nor let any but such a man or an Unbeliever marry such a woman: to the Believers such a thing is forbidden. 3 Those who defame chaste women and do not bring four witnesses should be punished with eighty lashes, and their testimony should not be accepted afterwards, for they are profligates, 4 except those among them that afterwards repent and mend their ways. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 5 And (as for) those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves, the evidence of one of these (should be taken) four times, bearing Allah to witness that he is most surely of the truthful ones. 6 And the fifth (time) that the curse of Allah be on him if he is one of the liars. 7 It shall avert from her the chastisement if she testify by God four times that he is of the liars, 8 and the fifth [time,] that God's curse be upon her if he is telling the truth, 9 And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Accepting of repentance and Wise. 10
