Light (Al-Noor)
64 verses, revealed in Medina after Exodus (Al-Hashr) before Pilgrimage (Al-Hajj)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ This is a chapter which We have sent down and decreed its commands, and in which We have sent down clear verses, in order that you may ponder. 1 Flog the adulteress and the adulterer, each one of them, with a hundred lashes. Let no pity for them cause you to disobey God, if you truly believe in God and the Last Day; and let their punishment be witnessed by a number of believers. 2 The adulterer weddeth not but an adulteress or an associatoress: and the adulteress! none weddeth her save an adulterer or an associator; and that is forbidden unto the believers. 3 Those who accuse chaste women, and cannot produce four witnesses, you shall lash them with eighty lashes. And never accept their testimony, for they are evildoers, 4 save such as repent thereafter and make amends; surely God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate. 5 Those who accuse their wives and do not have any witnesses except themselves, should swear four times in the name of God, the testimony of each such person being that he is speaking the truth, 6 And (swear) a fifth time that if he tell a lie the curse of God be on him. 7 And the punishment shall be averted from the woman if she bears the testimony four times by the name of Allah, that the man is a liar. 8 And a fifth (time) that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he speaketh truth. 9 But for God's bounty to you and His mercy and that God turns, and is All-wise -- 10
