Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ This is a Surah which We have sent down and We have made it mandatory, and We have sent down clear Commandments in it so that you may learn lessons. 1 (As for) the fornicatress and the fornicator, flog each of them, (giving) a hundred stripes, and let not pity for them detain you in the matter of obedience to Allah, if you believe in Allah and the last day, and let a party of believers witness their chastisement. 2 The fornicator shall marry none but a fornicatress or an idolatress; and the fornicatress none shall marry her but a fornicator or an idolater; that is forbidden to the believers. 3 As for those persons who charge chaste women with false accusations but do not produce four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes and never accept their evidence afterwards, for they themselves are transgressors, 4 Except those who repent after this and act aright, for surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 5 And those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves, let them testify by swearing by Allah four times that he is of the truthful, 6 And (swear) a fifth time that if he tell a lie the curse of God be on him. 7 But it shall avert the punishment (of stoning to death) from her, if she bears witness four times by Allah, that he (her husband) is telling a lie. 8 And the fifth (time) that the wrath of Allah be on her if he is one of the truthful. 9 AND WERE it not for God's favour upon you, [O man,] and His grace, and that God is a wise acceptor of repentance...! 10
