۞ Say those who look not to encounter Us, 'Why have the angels not been sent down on us, or why see we not our Lord?' Waxed proud they have within them, and become greatly disdainful. 21 On the day when they behold the angels, on that day there will be no good tidings for the guilty; and they will cry: A forbidding ban! 22 And We turned all the deeds they had performed into scattered floating specks of dust. 23 The inmates of Paradise will have a better abode that day, and a better resting place. 24 And the day when the sky will be split asunder with clouds and the angels will be sent down in full. 25 The true kingship on that day belongs to the Most Gracious; and that is hard for the disbelievers. 26 On the Day when the wrong-doer shall gnaw his hands saying: would that I had taken with the apostle a way! 27 Oh, would that I had never chosen such a one for my companion -- 28 he made me forgetful of the warning after it had reached me. Satan is man's great betrayer." 29 And the messenger saith: O my Lord! Lo! mine own folk make this Qur'an of no account. 30 Even so have We appointed unto every prophet an opponent from among the guilty; but Allah sufficeth for a Guide and Helper. 31 And the disbelievers say, “Why was the Qur’an not sent down to him all at once?” This is how We sent it in stages, in order to strengthen your heart with it and We read it slowly, in stages. 32 And (there is another wisdom in this: whenever they brought to you an odd thing (or a strange question), We sent its right answer to you in time and explained it all in the best manner, 33 Those who will be gathered to Hell (prone) on their faces, such will be in an evil state, and most astray from the (Straight) Path. 34
