[Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said to the chiefs around him: "Verily! This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer. 34 who wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery. What, then, do you advise?" 35 They replied: 'Put him and his brother off for a while, and send heralds to your cities 36 That they should bring to you every skillful magician. 37 So the sorcerers were got together for the appointment of a day well-known, 38 and the people were told: "Will you join the assembly? 39 "That we may follow the sorcerers [who were on Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) religion of disbelief] if they are the winners." 40 Now when the sorcerers came, they said unto Pharaoh: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail. 41 'Yes, indeed' he answered, 'and you shall become among those who are near stationed' 42 Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" 43 So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant." 44 Then Moses cast down his staff and suddenly it swallowed up what they had falsely invented. 45 So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 46 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 47 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 [Pharaoh] said, "You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all." 49 They said, “No harm (in it), we will return to our Lord.” 50 and we surely expect that Our Lord will forgive us our sins for we are the first ones to believe." 51
