(Pharaoh) said to the Chiefs around him: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed: 34 Who desires to turn you out of your land with his magic; what is it then that you advise? 35 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 36 who shall bring to you every skilful sorcerer." 37 So the wizards were gathered together at a set time on a day appointed. 38 And it was said unto the people: are ye going to assemble. 39 Belike we may follow the magicians if they are the winners? 40 "When the magicians came, they asked the Pharaoh, "Will there be any reward for us if we win?" 41 He replied, "You will then be my closest associates". 42 Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" 43 So they threw down their ropes and their staves and exclaimed, “By the honour of Firaun, indeed victory is ours!” 44 Then Moses cast down his staff and it swallowed up their lying invention, 45 So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe 47 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 48 (Pharaoh) said: Ye put your faith in him before I give you leave. Lo! he doubtless is your chief who taught you magic! But verily ye shall come to know. Verily I will cut off your hands and your feet alternately, and verily I will crucify you every one. 49 They said: "No matter! for us, we shall but return to our Lord! 50 “We hope that our Lord will forgive us our mistakes, as we are the first to believe.” 51
