(Pharaoh) said unto the chiefs about him: Lo! this is verily a knowing wizard, 34 who seeks to expel you from your land by his sorcery. What is your counsel' 35 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 36 who shall assemble before thee all sorcerers of great knowledge" 37 So the magicians were gathered at a set time on a day appointed. 38 and the people were told: "Will you join the assembly? 39 Belike we may follow the magicians if they are the winners? 40 So when the magicians came, they said to Firaun, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 41 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 42 Moosa said to them, “Cast whatever you intend to cast.” 43 Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh's might, lo! we verily are the winners. 44 Then Musa (Moses) threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all the falsehoods which they showed! 45 The magicians fell down in adoration 46 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 47 and the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 (Pharaoh) said: Ye put your faith in him before I give you leave. Lo! he doubtless is your chief who taught you magic! But verily ye shall come to know. Verily I will cut off your hands and your feet alternately, and verily I will crucify you every one. 49 They said, "No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 50 "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!" 51
