Said Firaun to the court members around him, “He is indeed an expert magician.” 34 He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?" 35 They said: "Detain him and his brother for a while and send forth heralds to the cities 36 That they should bring to you every skillful magician. 37 So all the magicians gathered together at the appointed time 38 And the people were told: "Are ye (now) assembled?- 39 so that we may follow the magicians, if they be the winners." 40 And when the wizards came they said unto Pharaoh: Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners? 41 He replied, "Certainly, in that case you will join my inner circle." 42 [And] Moses said unto them: "Throw whatever you are going to throw!" 43 So they threw their ropes and their sticks, and said: "By the might of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), it is we who will certainly win!" 44 Thereafter, Moses threw down his rod and behold, it went about swallowing up all the false devices they had contrived. 45 The magicians fell down in adoration 46 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 48 Said (the Pharaoh): "You have come to believe in him before I gave you leave. He is surely your chief, who taught you magic. You will soon come to know: I will have your hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, and have every one of you crucified." 49 They said: "We do not care, for we are bound to return to our Lord, 50 We hope our Lord will forgive us, as we are the first of the believers." 51
