Fir'awn said unto the chiefs around him: verily this is a magician knowing. 34 "His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?" 35 They said: Give him and his brother respite and send heralds into the cities 36 who shall bring to you every skilful sorcerer." 37 So all the magicians gathered together at the appointed time 38 The people were asked, 'Will you assemble? 39 in order that we shall follow the sorcerers if they are the victors' 40 Then, when the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, they said: 'Shall we receive a wage if we win' 41 He said: "Yes, and you shall then verily be of those brought near (to myself)." 42 Moses said to them: 'Cast down what you cast' 43 So they cast their ropes and their staffs, and said, 'By the might of Pharaoh we shall be the victors.' 44 Thereafter, Moses threw down his rod and behold, it went about swallowing up all the false devices they had contrived. 45 so the sorcerers were cast down, prostrating themselves, 46 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 48 He (Pharaoh) said: 'You have believed him before I have given you permission. He is the chief of you who has taught you sorcery. But you shall know. I will surely cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and crucify you all.' 49 They said: no harm! verily unto our Lord we are to return. 50 We hope our Lord will forgive us, as we are the first of the believers." 51
