[Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said to the chiefs around him: "Verily! This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer. 34 who desires to expel you from your land by his sorcery; what do you command?' 35 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send gatherers to the cities.” 36 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 37 So the sorcerers were got together for the appointment of a day well-known, 38 and the people were told, "Will you also gather together, 39 so that we may follow the magicians, if they be the winners." 40 And when the magicians came, they said to Firon: Shall we get a reward if we are the vanquishers? 41 'Yes, indeed' he answered, 'and you shall become among those who are near stationed' 42 Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" 43 Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh's might, lo! we verily are the winners. 44 Then Musa cast down his staff and lo! it swallowed up the lies they told. 45 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves in adoration, 46 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 47 and the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Said (the Pharaoh): "You have come to believe in him before I gave you leave. He is surely your chief, who taught you magic. You will soon come to know: I will have your hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, and have every one of you crucified." 49 They said: "No matter! for us, we shall but return to our Lord! 50 We hope our Lord will forgive us, as we are the first of the believers." 51
