Said Firaun to the court members around him, “He is indeed an expert magician.” 34 He wants to expel you from your land through his magic. What is your opinion?" 35 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 36 who shall assemble before thee all sorcerers of great knowledge" 37 So the magicians were assembled at a stated time and place on an appointed day. 38 The people were asked, 'Will you assemble? 39 Haply we may follow the magicians, if they are the vanquishers. 40 So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Fir'aun (Pharaoh): "Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners?" 41 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 42 Musa (Moses) said to them: "Throw what you are going to throw!" 43 So they cast down their ropes and staffs saying, "By the honor of the Pharaoh we shall certainly become the winners". 44 Then Moses threw his staff and lo! it swallowed that which they did falsely show. 45 And the wizards were flung prostrate, 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe 47 and the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 [Pharaoh] said, "You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all." 49 They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back; 50 "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!" 51
