The Pharaoh said to the people around him, "He is certainly a skillful magician. 34 "He wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery, then what is it your counsel, and what do you command?" 35 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 36 And bring the ablest magicians to you." 37 So the sorcerers were assembled at a fixed time on a day appointed. 38 And it was said unto the people: are ye going to assemble. 39 "That we may follow the sorcerers (in religion) if they win?" 40 "When the magicians came, they asked the Pharaoh, "Will there be any reward for us if we win?" 41 He said, 'Yes indeed; and you shall then be among the near-stationed.' 42 Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw! 43 Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh's might, lo! we verily are the winners. 44 Therefore Moosa put forth his staff – so it immediately began swallowing all their fabrications. 45 The magicians fell down prostrate, 46 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 48 Pharaoh said: "You accepted the word of Moses even before I granted you the leave to do so. Surely he is your chief who has taught you magic. Soon shall you come to know. I shall cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and shall crucify all of you." 49 They said: "There will be no harm. We shall return to our Lord. 50 Lo! we ardently hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we are the first of the believers. 51
