(Pharaoh) said to the Chiefs around him: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed: 34 who desires to expel you from your land by his sorcery; what do you command?' 35 They said, "Hold him and his brother off for a while 36 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer. 37 So all the magicians gathered together at the appointed time 38 And it was said to the people: "Are you (too) going to assemble? 39 "That we may follow the sorcerers [who were on Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) religion of disbelief] if they are the winners." 40 So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Pharaoh: "Of course - shall we have a (suitable) reward if we win? 41 He replied, "Certainly, in that case you will join my inner circle." 42 Moses said to them: 'Cast down what you cast' 43 So they cast down their ropes and staffs saying, "By the honor of the Pharaoh we shall certainly become the winners". 44 Then Musa (Moses) threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all the falsehoods which they showed! 45 The magicians fell down in adoration 46 saying: "We (now) believe in the Lord of the Universe, 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 48 Fir'awn said: ye believed in him ere I gave you leave. Verily he is your chief who hath taught you magic, so ye shall surely come to know. Surely I shall cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and surely I shall crucify you all. 49 They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back; 50 We hope that our Lord will forgive us for our sins; we were not believers at first." 51
