It is no sin for you if ye divorce women while yet ye have not touched them, nor appointed unto them a portion. Provide for them, the rich according to his means, and the straitened according to his means, a fair provision. (This is) a bounden duty for those who do good. 236 And if you divorce them before you have touched them and you have appointed for them a portion, then (pay to them) half of what you have appointed, unless they relinquish or he should relinquish in whose hand is the marriage tie; and it is nearer to righteousness that you should relinquish; and do not neglect the giving of free gifts between you; surely Allah sees what you do. 237 Be guardians of your prayers, and of the midmost prayer, and stand up with devotion to Allah. 238 If you fear (war or danger), pray while standing or on horseback; but when you have safety again remember God, for He taught you what you did not know. 239 If any of you die and leave widows, make a bequest for them of a year's maintenance without causing them to leave their homes; but if they leave of their own accord, you will not be blamed for what they may reasonably choose to do with themselves. God is almighty and wise. 240 There shall be for divorced women provision honourable -- an obligation on the godfearing. 241 Thus doth Allah Make clear His Signs to you: In order that ye may understand. 242
