And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
