Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 "Or do they benefit you or harm you?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 You and your fathers? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 "Nor a caring friend." 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
