Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 no loyal friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
