And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
