Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship' 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
