And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said, “Do you see these – (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 no caring friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
