And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
