And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 “They are all my enemies, except the Lord Of The Creation.” 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
