Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
