And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
