And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said, “Do you see these (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed your Lord only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
