And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 And they will say while they dispute with one another, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
