Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
