And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
