And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
