And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
