Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship' 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 Do not betray me 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 no loyal friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
