Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 Ye and your forefathers! 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
