Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 "Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 77 "The One Who created me, so He will guide me." 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 "And forgive my paternal uncle - he is indeed astray." 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 "So now we do not have any intercessors." 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
